Starting to get nervous

It’s Tuesday and my race is Sunday. I’m really starting to get nervous. This morning I couldn’t get up because I stayed up late to watch KC beat San Diego. My fantasy football team won too. Anyway, it was storming this morning and I told myself I would swim on Thursday and run at lunch. Steve was ready to run at lunch too so it worked out really well. We wanted to do under 9:00/mile. I’m pretty happy with the run. I’m glad I was able to do it with confidence. But, the entire time I was thinking about Sunday. I’m nervous. My head was racing the entire time.

I’m just going to take it easy. STAY HEALTHY. With that, hopefully everything will go well on Sunday.

Slowing down and getting faster

Last week I worked out Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. I’m going to do the exact same this week. I felt so good at the end of the week that it couldn’t hurt to do the exact same thing. I’m still adding miles, but I’m still taking it easy. I decided that finishing the second half of my workout, faster than the first half, is what is most important right now. So I’ve been trying to start off extra slow in order to make that happen.

Tuesday was great, and today, running with Jason, was even better. I didn’t swim this morning, because I didn’t swim last Thursday. I had a good night of sleep and it shows. I took water on every loop at the lake and walked for about 25 yards after the drink. Still my average pace was improved.

I’m really really excited about my race next weekend. I really feel that if I stay healthy, I will succeed in accomplishing my goal of 8 hours at Branson 70.3.

Confidence for a 10k

I’m feeling like I’m ready to meet my 10k goal for the year. Unfortunately, I have a 70.3 to do first. Jason pushed me today and I felt great. I have a goal of a 1:00:00 10k by the end of the year and today’s run gave me all the confidence that I need.

Not sure what happened but I will take it

I skipped the morning swim because I didn’t sleep well again last night. Wednesday I skipped my workouts too for the same reason.

When I got to the office this morning, I didn’t see the cars of Jason, Steve or Ron. What I didn’t realize was that Ski’s truck was there. By the time I got there, Ski was already out on his bike. So I was running alone this morning. The coolest weather I’ve ran in since May I think. It was 63 when I started running. I tried to start slow, but I was focused on cadence. I’m not sure why I was running as fast as I did. I did have a new song in my head this morning “Louder Than Words” by David Guetta, maybe thats part of it. I guess I’ve also lost a few pounds the past couple weeks. There is a rule of thumb that says: you will go 2 seconds faster per mile per pound of weight that you lose.

Whatever it was, I will take it. A great way to start the day and very much a confidence builder for the weekend.

Sunshine beautiful morning

Swimming was great, got started late but I was consistent. Coach Paul gave me some good tips that I’m not quite comfortable with yet, but I’ll keep trying. Talking to Coach Ken last night gave me a little extra motivation today too. I’m looking forward to this weekend.

The bike was on Jason’s mountain bike. I felt pretty good for being on a different bike than normal. It made me rethink my strategy a little though. Today I was standing for probably an entire mile of the 10 mile ride. It wasn’t so hard that I couldn’t do it. I think I can stand going up hills if I find the right gear. Finding the right gear is my main problem. I think for this weekend I’ll continue with staying seated and getting into an easy gear. But for Branson, I might change it up if I can figure it out.

The run was good, my legs felt extra heavy, but my endurance felt good. I had energy, I could have done more. The weather was great. I don’t feel like I over trained at all.

Maybe I will rest on Saturday

I think today I felt the accumulation of the Tuesday and Wednesday workouts. My breakfast didn’t sit right. I’m happy that even on a day when I’m not feeling great to start, that I can still have an acceptable workout. This morning Ski joined us again for swimming and running. Steve ran with Ski and Jason slowed down to run with me today. I might still go bike with Ski this afternoon.
