I was so close

Here is the data from my Branson (almost) 70.3

From my 310 (the entire race)

From my Edge (just the bike)

It was alright

I ran with Runners Edge on Saturday.  I wasn’t feeling as good as I had hoped.  I’m pretty sure that it was because Mike was ready to rock.  Mike was going very fast, including a 8:59 at mile 9.  If I was wearing my heart rate monitor, I’m sure I wouldn’t have tried to keep up with Mike as much as I did.

I’m happy that I finished.  I’m happy with the overall pace.  During the run I was trying to figure out what pace group I should go with for KC Marathon.  I decided the 5:00 pace group is where I need to start.  If I still have sub 11:00/mile in me at mile 20, I can go for it.  I don’t want to miss another goal.

Focused and ready to start training for next event

After a failed attempt at becoming a half-ironman, I’m back training for the KC Marathon. Today was my first real run. This week I ran with my dog, Tyson and did some extreme cross training with FitPitKC and Midwest Triathlon Coaching.

Take it easy

My last ride before my big race. I was trying to take it easy. Ron and Jason feel like I was pushing them. On Sunday, on the bike, I need to take it easy. I want to finish with a good run. The past few weeks I’ve just wanted to finish strong. Make the second half faster than the first. I’m going to try to do that on every stage. The easiest way to do that is to take it easy, at least on the first half!

I feel good.

Teamwork

Well, my last run before my big race. Jason and David were running this morning. David needed to run 5.5. I was planning on 4. Everyone on the team has been so great about training with me, so I decided to try to keep up with David. I started out fast, but was able to finish strong. Running with Jason has been really really helping me lately. It seems every time I run with Jason, I’m getting a little better. Jason always has enough energy and speed to push me at any time along our run. The last 1 mile, I asked Jason to get closer to David slowly. At that time David was about 100 meters in front of us. Jason lead the way. It was a great finish to a great run. I’ve been pretty lucky. I think I’ll try to convince Steve to run with Jason at least once a week. If Steve gets half the benefit that I have received, he will have a fantastic Chicago Marathon.

Everyone on the team (at work) is at different levels and has different goals, but we feel like a team (in training). We train like a team. It is a pretty great feeling. Have I mentioned how much I love my job?

Starting to get nervous

It’s Tuesday and my race is Sunday. I’m really starting to get nervous. This morning I couldn’t get up because I stayed up late to watch KC beat San Diego. My fantasy football team won too. Anyway, it was storming this morning and I told myself I would swim on Thursday and run at lunch. Steve was ready to run at lunch too so it worked out really well. We wanted to do under 9:00/mile. I’m pretty happy with the run. I’m glad I was able to do it with confidence. But, the entire time I was thinking about Sunday. I’m nervous. My head was racing the entire time.

I’m just going to take it easy. STAY HEALTHY. With that, hopefully everything will go well on Sunday.
