I’m a big fan of instant gratification.  I like opening presents on Christmas Eve.  I think the same with running.  If I’m not making improvements, its hard to stay focused.  I have a hard time staying in zone 1, especially when I was in zone 3 last week.  That’s why I race.  I want to beat myself.

Next weekend we have our second indoor triathlon.  I worked hard at last weekend.  Next weekend, I just have to beat my own distance.  I would also like to beat my 8 year old niece while I’m at it, but that’s not the point of this story.  I don’t have to set any goals for next weekend.  I set my goal last week.  If I do one more lap in the pool, I’m happy.  If I do one more kilometer on the bike, I’m happy.  If I do just one more lap (tenth of a mile) on the run, I’m happy.  But what next?

We registered for the new race “Rock the Parkway” on March 28th.  This is a race that I do need to set a goal for.  I’m going to try to cut off over 8 minutes from my time in October.  My previous best was 2:28, so this time I’m shooting for 2:24. Thats just 3 weeks away.  The workouts that I have from coach I think will get me ready.
