My first triathlon attempt was a failure. My bike wasn’t ready from the shop so I bought Jill from a mountain bike from Wal-mart. Luckily for me, Doug Y., from Runners Edge, was there to help me. I was also very lucky to have a cheerleader, Jill was there and brought the puppies.
- Don’t ride a bike that is too small for you
- Don’t put your helmet on before your shirt
- Don’t eat McDonald’s before the race
- Don’t show up late
- Don’t (graduation) party seven days before the race and take the week to recover instead of train
I was really happy with the swim portion. I actually came out of the water in front of people which I honestly didn’t expect. I went into the race just wanting to finish. So getting on a bike that was too small for me wasn’t that big of a deal. I knew I could finish. About half way into the race, I got a flat tire. Instead of walking the rest of the route, I turned around.
